Another succesful breakaway in the 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia with the route shortened to 122 kms after the protest of a group of riders in the morning.
When the race resumed in Abbiategrasso at 2:30 PM, the pace was very high and a group of 14 riders including Etienne Van Empel was able to take a gap.
After 60 kms of intense duel, the peloton has let the breakaway go with the attackers who started to launch attacks in the final 25 kms.
The decisive move was made by Josef Cerny with Van Empel who ended in 12th place achieving his second top 15 in his GT debut.
