A rainy day welcomed back the team Vini Zabù – KTM to the first race in Italy after the break due to the COVID-19 at the Grande Trittico Lombardo, a race born from the fusion of Coppa Agostoni, Coppa Bernocchi and Tre Valli Varesine.
Five riders managed to escape at the beginning of the race, Oscar Riesebeek, Anton Kuzmin, Raffaele Radice , Quinten Hermans, e Davide Baldaccini with 9’25” as maximum gap with 100 kms to go.
The peloton reacted in the city circuit of Varese with the climbs of Montello and Ronchi and on the downhill from Ronchi’s KOM the decisive action of 12 riders started with two laps to go with Lorenzo Rota who was very close to reach them.
Gorka Izagirre attacked solo in the final lap and behind him Alex Aranburu won the sprint for the second place in front of Greg Van Avermaet with Lorenzo Rota and Lorenzo Fortunato who ended in the second group.
This is what our DS Luca Scinto thinks about today’s race
“We arrived here after spending some days in the heat of Tuscany and the weather was totally different. Considering that it was our first post lockdown race it was normal to find some difficulties. It’s a shame that Rota couldn’t bridge to the lead group but I think he did a good race together with Fortunato. We already think to wednesday’s Milano – Torino hoping for a better weather”.
